In Stuttgart, Mercedes-Benz officially unveiled the all new 2008 C-Class that will be going on sale later this summer. As usual, the car is larger in all dimensions than the previous model. The new C-Class will be available state-side in two trim levels, Luxury and Sport, with both models sharing what is called Agility Control Steering, Agility Control Suspension and Agility Control Gearshift.

While many debates have arisen in the past about the desire for Benzes, the 2002 C230 Kompressor adds a new twist to the argument. It was not designed for the older crowd, but rather for those who are still in college. They have decided to market it toward Generation X, an accurate enough moniker, to lure this heretofore segment into viewing a Mercedes as an accessible, possible first-car purchase.
Mercedes’ latecomer to the compact premium sedan line is in its final stages of testing and is due to be unveiled at next year’s Geneva Motor Show. In the meantime, UK source Auto Express has showed several images of the new car including coupe and estate versions.
Based on the larger E-Class, the new C will also spawn a performance coupe model aimed squarely at Audi’s upcoming A5 and BMW’s 3-series coupe. The new car won’t adopt air suspension or active body control because of the high costs involved, but the car will get an iDrive style control system and 4MATIC all-wheel drive as an option.
