Mercedes-Benz has announced today that it would add a new diesel model to is S-Class in Europe, the S420 CDI. The S 420 CDI is powered by 4.0L V8 CDI engine develops 320-hp and staggering 538 lb.-ft. of torque.
The S 420 CDI delivers a 0 - 62 mph sprint in just 6.6 seconds on its way to the electronically governed top speed of reach 155 mph. On the New European Driving Cycle (normal city and highway driving), it burns just 9.4 to 9.6 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres (nearly 25 mpg).
The new S 420 CDI is available in Europe now, with deliveries starting later in December. Unfortunately, since S 420 CDI is not a BLUETEC diesel, this is one Mercedes diesel we will not see in the States.
